Frequently Asked Questions
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and cost £50 per session. I also offer low-cost sessions at £30 per session. If the lower rate is most suitable for you, please indicate this on your initial contact form to check for current availability. I won’t ever ask you to explain your circumstances or provide evidence of your finances.
How do I know where to start?
Taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting, which is why I offer a free 15-minute consultation. This is a chance to discuss your needs and explore what approach might work best for you. This is a no-pressure space for you to ensure that you are comfortable to continue sessions and that I am the right counsellor for you.
How many sessions should I have and how often?
I offer both short-term and long-term counselling depending on your individual goals. Research shows that 6-12 weekly sessions offer the best outcome for specific, short-term issues, while 12-24 sessions are ideal for exploring more complex or deeply rooted concerns. However, counselling is an entirely personal experience, and we will review our progress frequently to make sure the pace, and frequency still fit your needs.
What should I expect during our first session together?
Our first full session is about creating a comfortable space where I will invite you to share what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from our time together. There is no right or wrong answer, and you only have to share what you feel ready to talk about.
Can I stop counselling?
Yes, absolutely. While we will collaboratively discuss and review how many sessions might best support your circumstances, you are not bound to a set number of sessions with Netley Vale Counselling and so can stop counselling earlier if you need or want to. It is highly recommended that we have a final session to safely close our work together and ensure you are equipped with the right tools and resources as you move forward.
How do I contact you to arrange counselling?
Please complete the initial contact form including your name, email address and a brief message and I will get back to you to arrange our initial free 15-minute consultation.
